FALL 2026 ORBIS BOOK CLUB

Come, Have Breakfast

Meditations on God and the Earth

What if the whole of creation is God's invitation to the table?

This fall, the Orbis Book Club invites you to join us for a four-week journey of faith, reflection, prayer, and conversation as we explore Sister Elizabeth A. Johnson's Come, Have Breakfast: Meditations on God and the Earth.

Our journey is inspired by the Season of Creation, September 1 through October 4, a time when Christians around the world are invited to renew, repair, and restore our relationship with God, one another, and all creation.

Even though our book club continues beyond October 4, we will carry the spirit and questions of the Season of Creation with us throughout our four-week journey.

SEE THE EARTH WITH NEW EYES

In Come, Have Breakfast, Sister Elizabeth Johnson invites us to see the Earth and the entire community of creation through new eyes. Drawing on Scripture, theology, science, and the beauty of the natural world, she explores God's loving presence in creation and challenges us to reconsider our place within the web of life.

30 short meditations, making it accessible for personal reading and prayer while providing plenty of opportunity for deeper conversation.

FOUR WEEKS. FOUR MOVEMENTS. ONE JOURNEY.

Our four Zoom sessions will guide us through the book as a spiritual journey

 01

CREATION: GOD'S GIFT

How do we understand our relationship with God's creation?

02

GOD'S PRESENCE IN CREATION

Where do we encounter God in the natural world?

03

JESUS, THE EARTH, AND OUR KINSHIP WITH CREATION

How does seeing creation as our "kin" challenge and deepen our understanding of Christian discipleship?

04

GOD'S BELOVED CREATION: FROM REFLECTION TO ACTION

Having seen creation differently, how might God be calling us to live differently?

Come Prepared to Reflect and Share

As with our previous Orbis Book Club gatherings, each reading assignment will include a reflection question to consider while you read.

Rather than simply asking, "What did you think about the reading?", the question will invite you to connect Johnson's reflections with your own faith, experience, and understanding of God's creation.

You won't need to prepare a formal presentation or written response. Simply come to the Zoom gathering ready to share what caught your attention, challenged you, inspired you, or caused you to see something differently.

Our time together will include a brief introduction, large-group reflection, small-group breakout conversations, and an opportunity to return to the larger group to share insights from our conversations.

COME AS YOU ARE.

REFLECT → SHARE → CONVERSE → DISCOVER

A Journey from Seeing to Responding

Together, we will move through four questions:

SEE

How do I understand creation?

ENCOUNTER

Where do I encounter God?

RECOGNIZE

Who are my kin?

RESPOND

How am I being called to live differently?

The hope is that we will finish this journey seeing the earth, our faith, and our place in creation with new eyes.
