Mission Rosary for Children

The Mission Rosary

Red symbolizes the blood of martyrs that gave their lives in Latin America because they wanted all people to be treated fairly and justly.

All people deserve to have clean  water, a safe place to live, enough food for the family, work, and healthcare.

We remember Bishop Oscar Romero and others who defend the poor in El Salvador.

We also remember Maryknoll Sisters Ita Ford and Maura Clark, Lay Missioner Jean Donovan, and Ursiline Sister Dorothy Kazel who lost their lives working for the poor in El Salvador.

Green symbolizes the earth rich with life in the jungles and savannas of Africa.

The African people are filled with joy.  Mass on Sunday can be two hours or longer! There is much singing and dancing and praise to the Lord.

African children are very eager to go to school but because many are poor parents cannot always afford to pay for school.

We pray for the children of Africa that they can have clean water, safe shelter, and a chance to go to school.

Yellow symbolizes the sun rising in the East to bring a new day.

We remember the people who follow many different religions in Asia such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity.

God is present in every human being, no matter what religion the follow.   When we respect and reverence every person as a child of God, a new day of love will dawn.

Blue symbolizes the ocean waters that are home to thousands of islands.  Most of their food comes from the ocean so it is everyone’s responsibility to keep it clean and healthy.

St. Francis of Assisi seemed to fully appreciate Jesus command to preach to all creation.  The sea, the sky and the earth await the Good News of God’s love.

White symbolizes purity of Christ and is the color of the garment that Christians wear when they are baptized.  St. Paul says that when we are baptized, we are clothed in Christ, a new life!

Most of Europe has been Christian for 2,000 years and the U.S. has been Christian for more than 200 years. In Europe, many wars were fought because Christians argued over whose faith was better.  Now, very few people go to church in Europe.

We remember the Europeans that they may put their differences aside and take a new look at the Gospel of Jesus.
