Advent Photo Challenge

Advent, which comes from the Latin word for arrival or coming, is a period of preparation for the birth of Christ. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. The first Sunday of Advent also marks the beginning of the liturgical year, the Church’s “New Year’s Day”.

Advent is a time of joyous anticipation, but also of preparation for the great Christmas feast. This year, we are challenging young adults everywhere to reflect on our four sub-themes this advent season: Hope, Faith, Joy, and Love. Why young adults? Pope Francis says, “that young people are the now of God,” which is also why we chose Imago Dei (or the image of God) as our overall theme for this challenge.

As Maryknollers, we think about ways we can be in solidarity with those on the margins. This Advent season, we invite you to journey with us and read more about how Maryknoll priests, brothers, sisters, and lay people dedicate their lives to mission in hopes that light is shed so the whole world can see the face of God in unexpected places.

Be part of this social media movement! Show us what your hopes are, what your faith looks like, the things that bring you joy, and how you show love to others.
