Coronavirus Resources

Historians note that the spread of Christianity in the early centuries coincided with at least three major plagues and pandemics. They believe that the witness of how these early communities of missionary disciples responded to the crises with faith, hope and compassion had a substantial impact.

The coronavirus is forcing us out of our comfort zones and challenging us to take a hard look at our lives and current situation. We find ourselves confronting sickness and death, losing jobs and facing financial insecurity, isolated and cut off from family and friends and worried about the future.

During this time as we've journeyed together in isolation through the throes of the coronavirus, we have experienced the Paschal mystery of life, death and resurrection in a new way. Just as Mary and other disciples experienced the empty tomb on that first Easter Sunday, we pray that you and your family are able to find hope in the Good News that nothing can separate us from God's love; not loneliness, long lines, economic uncertainty, job loss, sickness, not even death.

And, just as the first disciples were eventually able to leave their social isolation of the upper room to go forth with great joy to share the Good News, we look forward to accompanying you again in person at our formation programs and immersion trips. In the meantime, we offer you our online gatherings and resources.

All of us in the Maryknoll family spread across the globe, hold you and your family in our hearts. May you have a profound encounter of the peace offered by our Risen Lord,

With peace,

Your Maryknoll Mission Education Team

Ongoing Weekly Mass Online and Prayer Requests: Join the Maryknoll community for Mass on Sundays at 10am EDT by going to our Maryknoll Society Facebook Page. Also listen to a message from our Superior General Fr. Ray Finch on how we are keeping you in our prayers, and add your own prayer request here.

Free Lesson Plans: Our newest “Go Forth” Easter Season edition of Discover Your Neighbor is now available. Your students and children will be inspired by how young people are responding to conflicts in Kenya and Chicago. Our website has 11 other complete online lessons for grades K-8 which can be used while students and families are working from home.

Catch up on your reading: As you use this time for learning and reflection, we want to give you a free digital version of the ORBIS book, Beloved Amazonia. This just-published book includes the full text of Pope Francis's highly anticipated apostolic exhortation from the Synod of the Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region, along with the original working document and the Pope's homily from the opening Mass, with context offered by Christopher Lamb, Vatican correspondent for The Tablet (UK) and Cardinal Michael Czerny of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. Click here to get a link to the PDF to view or download. If you’re looking for other ORBIS books, ebooks are on Amazon. Sorry, for now we are not able to ship physical books right now.

Also the Maryknoll Magazine is online and includes a newsfeed on how the coronavirus is impacting communities around the world.

We are here for you. Our team of mission educators around the country are working remotely and are ready to accompany you in both this time of crisis as well as planning ahead. Please feel free to reach out to us.

Financial Impact: We know the financial hardship that Coronavirus is wreaking on our communities, and we pray that you are not being adversely affected. We too feel its impact as we continue to maintain our ministries. If you are in a position to help us, we are very grateful for your support. Here’s our donation link.
